Volunteer

Picture
18 and over and want to support Aotearoa's young climate leaders? Volunteer at your local Climate Challenge conference! This is a great opportunity to grow your understanding of climate change and activism, connect with others in the climate justice space, and get valuable experience in running an event.

All volunteers are provided with extensive training, including on facilitation and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. As part of our work as a treaty partner all volunteers are required to take part in this training, which will take place over a full day during a weekend leading up to the conference.

Volunteers will also be needed from 5pm to 7.30pm the night before the conference to assist with set up. Volunteers may be required to arrive as early as 8am and leave as late as 5pm on each day.

Below are descriptions of the types of volunteer roles we have. Please choose your first and second preference and we'll try our best to accommodate you in that role, however, if the spaces are already full we may place you into another role we see fit.

If you have any questions or queries regarding your application, don't hesitate to contact us.
Welfare Volunteers
These volunteers are the point of contact for attendees at the conference who need emotional or physical support. This includes supporting attendees who need to talk about conference content, dealing with attendee's interpersonal issues or any physical injuries. These volunteers will be stationed in the 'wellbeing space' which is often quiet and can work in shifts. Ideally these volunteers have previous experience or training in the mental health sector, and first aid training.

Logistics Volunteers
These volunteers work to ensure the weekend runs smoothly. This includes working on registration, food, supporting stall holders to set up and moving attendees between sessions. These volunteers spend time with attendees during breaks to make sure they are feeling well supported and to answer questions.

Workshop Assistants
These volunteers support the running of workshops throughout the weekend. This includes being responsible for a workshop room's resources and layout, supporting external workshop facilitators however is required and supporting attendees discussions. This may also include facilitating a Climate Challenge game and 'What's Next' future planning workshop, if this is the case full training will be provided.

Media - Videography and Photography
These volunteers capture the event through photographs and videos. We will have separate videography and photography volunteers. These volunteers will utilise their own DSLR camera to take photos or video of attendees, speakers, workshops, excursions and the MP panel while in action. Ideally these team members would have sufficient knowledge and access to editing software and being able to timely deliver finished photographs to the organising committee.
