Wellington Climate Challenge 2016

In 2016 the Climate Challenge Conference’s inaugural event took place on the 31st of August at Victoria University. This day long conference saw over 100 high school students from the lower north island engaged in a day of empowerment and connection, not to mention pizza. Speakers included India Logan, a youth delegate at the United Nations COP21, Professor Ralph Chapman of Victoria University and Guy Ryan, 2015 Young New Zealander of the Year and CEO of Inspiring Stories. The day also involved workshops which developed leadership skills, interactive simulation games which looked at big picture issues and opportunities for networking with other students. The event was a great success, igniting passion and empowering students with tools to go out and create change.

The 2016 Climate Challenge Leaders also met with Minister for Climate Change Issues, Paula
Bennett, to discuss climate change and the role of today’s youth in change making.
